Job Description

BHP is seeking an experienced and dynamic Procurement Lead to join our team, focusing on the critical Mining & Construction portfolio in Port Augusta, South Australia. This role is pivotal in driving strategic sourcing initiatives, optimizing supply chain performance, and ensuring the efficient and cost-effective acquisition of goods and services essential for our mining and construction projects. You will be instrumental in developing strong supplier relationships, mitigating risks, and supporting project delivery through robust procurement strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic procurement plans for mining and construction categories.
  • Lead complex negotiations with suppliers to achieve best value, quality, and delivery terms.
  • Manage end-to-end tender processes, contract drafting, and supplier relationship management.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities and supply chain efficiencies.
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including project managers, engineering, and operations teams.
  • Monitor market trends, supplier performance, and industry best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the procurement function.
  • Mentor and support junior procurement team members.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in procurement, supply chain, or category management, preferably within mining, construction, or heavy industry.
  • Proven expertise in strategic sourcing, negotiation, and contract management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency with procurement software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP Ariba, Oracle).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certification (e.g., CIPS, CSCP).
  • Experience working with Australian suppliers and market conditions.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience.
