Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and calm individual to join our team as a Part-time Library Assistant at our Amesbury branch. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a quiet, organised environment and is passionate about promoting literacy and access to information. You will play a crucial part in ensuring the smooth daily operations of the library, assisting patrons, and maintaining our collections. Full training will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to start or further their career in library services within a supportive council setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist library users with enquiries, locating materials, and using library facilities.
  • Process new books, returns, and reservations efficiently.
  • Maintain an organised and tidy library environment, including shelving books accurately.
  • Support library events and activities, particularly those in quieter zones.
  • Handle membership registrations and renewals.
  • Operate the library's circulation system and other IT equipment.
  • Ensure a welcoming and peaceful atmosphere for all patrons.

  • Basic computer literacy and ability to learn new software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a customer service role.
  • Familiarity with library systems or a passion for reading.
  • GCSEs or equivalent, including English and Maths.
