Job Description
St John Ambulance Western Australia is offering an exciting internship opportunity for a passionate and dedicated individual interested in community health and public health projects. As a Community Health Intern based in Kalgoorlie, you will gain hands-on experience in supporting various public health initiatives aimed at improving community well-being in the region. This role is ideal for students or recent graduates looking to make a tangible impact and develop practical skills in a dynamic healthcare setting. You will work closely with experienced professionals, contributing to project planning, implementation, and evaluation, while learning about the unique health challenges and opportunities within regional WA communities. Full training and mentorship will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of community health programs and public health projects.
- Conduct research and gather data to support public health initiatives, including community needs assessments.
- Prepare educational materials and presentations for community workshops and awareness campaigns.
- Support community engagement activities, including outreach events and stakeholder meetings.
- Help with administrative tasks related to project management and reporting.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to brainstorming sessions for new health interventions.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for all project activities.
- Adhere to all St John Ambulance WA policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
Required Skills
- Strong interest in public health, community development, or related fields.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated initiative, eagerness to learn, and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to interact professionally with diverse community members.
- Valid Australian Driver's License (desirable but not mandatory for all tasks).
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Public Health, Health Sciences, Community Development, Social Work, or a related discipline.
- Previous volunteer experience in community health or a not-for-profit setting.
- Familiarity with the Kalgoorlie-Boulder community and its unique demographics.
