Job Description

Are you passionate about language, culture, and the preservation of linguistic heritage? The University of Bradford is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Linguistics & Language Documentation Intern to join our research team. This entry-level internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in linguistic data collection, analysis, and documentation techniques. You will work closely with experienced researchers, contributing to projects focused on lesser-known languages and dialects. Full training will be provided, making this an ideal role for individuals with a strong interest in linguistics but no prior professional experience. This position will help you develop foundational skills in fieldwork methodology, digital archiving, and cross-cultural communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the transcription, annotation, and analysis of audio and video language data.
  • Support the development and maintenance of digital language archives.
  • Conduct preliminary research on specific linguistic features or cultural contexts.
  • Help prepare materials for language documentation projects, including consent forms and ethical reviews.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on project progress.
  • Learn to use specialized linguistic software and tools for data processing.
  • Organize and maintain research records and databases accurately.
  • Assist with administrative tasks related to project coordination.
