Job Description
Join Sydney Water as a Leak Detection Specialist in the Illawarra region. This vital role involves identifying and pinpointing leaks within our vast water network, contributing directly to water conservation and efficient utility management. You will utilise advanced acoustic and non-acoustic leak detection equipment, conduct field investigations, and collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure timely repairs. Your expertise will be crucial in reducing water loss, protecting infrastructure, and maintaining high service standards for our communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive leak detection surveys across the water distribution network using acoustic and non-acoustic methods.
- Operate and maintain specialised leak detection equipment, including correlators, ground microphones, and gas tracers.
- Accurately locate and pinpoint hidden leaks in pipelines, mains, and service connections.
- Record and report findings meticulously, including mapping leak locations and estimating water loss.
- Collaborate with field crews and engineering teams to facilitate prompt repair and remediation of identified leaks.
- Respond to emergency leak call-outs and assist in investigations of bursts and network incidents.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and environmental regulations during field operations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for leak detection strategies and technologies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in water utility leak detection or a related field (e.g., plumbing, civil maintenance).
- Proficiency in operating acoustic and non-acoustic leak detection equipment.
- Strong understanding of water network infrastructure and hydraulics.
- Ability to read and interpret utility maps, schematics, and engineering drawings.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Valid Australian Driver's Licence (manual).
- Ability to work independently in various outdoor environments and weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant trade qualification (e.g., Certificate III in Water Industry Operations) or equivalent.
- Experience with GIS systems for mapping and data management.
- Confined Space Entry and Work Safely at Heights certifications.
- First Aid certification.
