Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and physically capable Resource Recovery Hand to join our team at the Council Recycling Center in Coffs Harbour. This vital role involves the hands-on sorting, processing, and management of various recyclable materials, contributing directly to our region’s environmental sustainability goals. You will be instrumental in ensuring the efficient operation of the facility, maintaining a clean and safe working environment, and assisting the public with their recycling needs. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and the physical capacity to perform repetitive tasks in an outdoor and industrial setting. Full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sort and process recyclable materials (e.g., plastics, paper, glass, metals) efficiently and accurately.
  • Operate basic machinery and equipment as required, under supervision and after training.
  • Assist with the maintenance and cleanliness of the recycling center, including sweeping, tidying, and clearing blockages.
  • Safely load and unload materials using appropriate techniques and equipment.
  • Monitor incoming waste streams for non-compliant materials and ensure proper segregation.
  • Provide friendly and helpful assistance to members of the public using the facility.
  • Adhere strictly to all Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to achieve daily operational targets.

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively within a team.
  • Basic communication skills to interact with colleagues and the public.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WHS guidelines.
  • Punctual and reliable attendance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a manual labour or industrial environment.
  • Basic understanding of recycling principles or waste management.
  • Current driver's license.
