Job Description
Join PG&E as a Public Utilities Meter Reader and become an essential part of our team, ensuring the accurate and timely measurement of utility consumption for our customers. This role offers significant independence as you will primarily work outdoors, walking assigned routes in various weather conditions. You will be responsible for operating handheld devices to read meters, identifying and reporting unusual conditions, and occasionally interacting with customers. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working independently, have strong attention to detail, and thrive in an outdoor environment while contributing to critical public services.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately read electric and gas meters on assigned routes using handheld electronic devices.
- Walk extensive routes daily, accessing meters in diverse locations including residential, commercial, and industrial areas.
- Identify and report damaged meters, unsafe conditions, or potential service issues to supervisors.
- Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor when encountering customers in the field.
- Follow all safety protocols and company guidelines meticulously.
- Organize and manage daily routes efficiently.
- Operate and maintain company vehicle safely, if assigned.
Required Skills
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Physical ability to walk long distances daily in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).
- Valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Basic computer literacy for handheld device operation.
- Strong commitment to safety procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous experience in a role requiring outdoor work or route-based tasks.
- Familiarity with Stockton geographic area.
- Experience with customer service or public interaction.
