Job Description

This entry-level internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to Agnico Eagle’s ambitious sustainability efforts within the Rouyn-Noranda region. The Circular Economy & Zero Waste Intern will play a vital role in researching, analyzing, and supporting the implementation of innovative strategies aimed at significantly reducing waste generation and promoting circular resource flows across our operational sites. This is an excellent chance for an enthusiastic individual to gain invaluable practical experience in corporate sustainability and environmental management, learning directly from seasoned industry experts. Full training will be provided to ensure success in this role, making it ideal for those passionate about making a tangible environmental impact without requiring prior industry experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting comprehensive waste audits and detailed material flow analyses across various operational sites.
  • Research and synthesize best practices in circular economy principles, waste reduction, reuse, and advanced recycling technologies relevant to the mining sector.
  • Support the development and implementation of pilot projects specifically focused on achieving zero-waste initiatives.
  • Help track, analyze, and report on key waste management metrics and overall sustainability performance indicators.
  • Collaborate effectively with diverse internal teams (including operations, supply chain, and environmental departments) to proactively identify opportunities for resource optimization and efficiency.
  • Prepare clear and concise presentations and reports to effectively communicate findings, recommendations, and project progress.
  • Participate in community engagement efforts related to environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Strong demonstrated interest in environmental sustainability, circular economy concepts, and waste management practices.
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant post-secondary program (e.g., Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Business with a Sustainability focus, or related Sustainability Studies).
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking abilities, coupled with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for data analysis and reporting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; bilingualism in English and French is highly preferred given the Quebec location.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of industrial processes or supply chain management principles.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and compliance standards in Quebec or Canada.
  • Experience with data collection methodologies and basic statistical analysis tools.
