Job Description
Mercyhurst University is seeking an experienced and dynamic Academic Department Head for International Sponsorship. This pivotal role involves leading an academic department while simultaneously developing and managing international sponsorship programs designed to attract and support students from around the globe. The successful candidate will be responsible for curriculum development, faculty management, student success initiatives, and forging strategic international partnerships. This position requires a visionary leader with a deep understanding of global education trends, cross-cultural communication, and academic administration. The Department Head will play a critical role in expanding the university’s global footprint and enhancing its reputation as a welcoming institution for international scholars.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide academic and administrative leadership for the designated department.
- Oversee curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation processes.
- Recruit, mentor, and evaluate department faculty and staff.
- Develop and implement strategies for international student sponsorship and recruitment.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with international educational institutions, governments, and sponsoring organizations.
- Manage departmental budgets and resources effectively.
- Ensure student success through advising, support services, and innovative programming.
- Represent the department and university at internal and external events, including international conferences.
- Contribute to the university's strategic planning and global engagement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Doctoral degree in a relevant academic discipline.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in academic administration or higher education leadership.
- Proven experience in international education, student recruitment, or global partnerships.
- Strong understanding of international sponsorship mechanisms and compliance.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage complex budgets and multiple projects.
- Experience with curriculum development and program assessment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience living or working internationally.
- Proficiency in a second language.
- Prior experience as a Department Head or Program Director.
- Record of securing grants or external funding for international initiatives.
