Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and organized Animal Shelter Intake Coordinator to join our dedicated team. This vital role is the first point of contact for animals entering our care, managing the intake process from initial assessment to documentation. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and humane admission of animals, collaborating with veterinary staff, volunteers, and the public. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the intake process for all incoming animals, including stray, surrendered, and rescued animals.
  • Conduct initial health and temperament assessments upon arrival.
  • Accurately record all animal information, medical history, and intake details in our database.
  • Communicate sensitively and professionally with the public regarding animal surrender and intake procedures.
  • Coordinate with veterinary staff for immediate medical attention and vaccinations.
  • Ensure all animals are properly housed, fed, and comfortable during their initial intake period.
  • Assist with matching animals to appropriate foster homes or adoption programs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe intake area.

Required Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills and data entry.
  • Ability to handle animals humanely and safely, including those with challenging temperaments.
  • Compassion and empathy for animals and their owners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an animal shelter, veterinary clinic, or similar animal care setting.
  • Knowledge of animal behavior and common animal health issues.
  • Familiarity with shelter management software.
  • Valid UK driving license.
