Job Description
Are you passionate about veterinary medicine and eager to gain hands-on experience with avian and exotic animals? BluePearl Pet Hospital in Dallas, TX, is seeking a motivated Avian & Exotic Animal Vet Intern to join our dynamic team. This full-time internship offers an unparalleled opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of specialty exotic animal care, working alongside experienced veterinarians and licensed technicians. You will receive comprehensive training and mentorship, learning diagnostic techniques, treatment protocols, and surgical assistance for a diverse array of species, including birds, reptiles, small mammals, and more. This is an entry-level position designed for individuals with a strong interest and commitment to exotic animal medicine, no prior specialized experience is required, as full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with patient examinations, diagnostics, and treatments for avian and exotic animals.
- Observe and learn proper handling, restraint, and husbandry techniques for various exotic species.
- Help maintain accurate medical records and assist with client communication under direct supervision.
- Prepare examination rooms, surgical suites, and treatment areas, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
- Monitor anesthetized patients during procedures and assist with post-operative care.
- Participate in daily rounds, case discussions, and educational presentations.
- Perform laboratory tasks such as sample collection and basic analysis.
- Shadow specialists in various departments to gain broader clinical exposure.

Preferred Qualifications
- Enrollment in or recent graduation from an accredited Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program.

- Basic knowledge of animal anatomy and physiology.
