Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Ballistics Expert to join our advanced forensic and defense technology team in West Palm Beach, FL. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of projectile dynamics, firearm identification, and ammunition analysis, contributing to critical research, development, and investigative support. This role involves comprehensive laboratory work, data analysis, and technical reporting. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive ballistic examinations on firearms, ammunition, and related evidence.
- Perform trajectory analysis and reconstruction at crime scenes or simulation environments.
- Operate and maintain specialized ballistic comparison microscopes and imaging systems.
- Analyze bullet and casing characteristics for identification and comparison.
- Develop and implement testing protocols for new firearm technologies and ammunition types.
- Provide expert testimony in legal proceedings as required.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and documentation of findings.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on complex projects.
- Stay current with advancements in ballistic science and forensic techniques.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in ballistics examination or forensic science.
- Proficiency with ballistic comparison microscopes and firing range operations.
- Demonstrated expertise in firearm identification, ammunition analysis, and gunshot residue analysis.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a high-stakes environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Forensic Science, Physics, Criminal Justice, or a related scientific field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. in Forensic Science, Physics, or a related field.
- Certification from a recognized forensic accreditation body (e.g., ABMDI, AFTE).
- Experience with advanced 3D ballistics imaging and modeling software.
- Prior experience in a defense or law enforcement setting.
- Active security clearance or ability to obtain one.
