Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Bioinformatician Intern to join our medical data research team in Joondalup. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the analysis of complex medical and biological datasets. You will work alongside experienced bioinformaticians and clinicians, contributing to projects that aim to identify biomarkers, understand disease progression, and personalize treatment strategies. This role is ideal for students or recent graduates eager to apply their theoretical knowledge in a real-world clinical research setting and develop practical skills in bioinformatics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the processing, cleaning, and quality control of large-scale medical and biological datasets.
  • Support the development and implementation of bioinformatics pipelines for data analysis.
  • Perform preliminary data analysis under supervision, including statistical analysis and visualization.
  • Contribute to the interpretation of results and the generation of reports or presentations.
  • Learn and apply new bioinformatics tools and methodologies relevant to ongoing research projects.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of methodologies, software, and data used in analyses.

Required Skills

  • Current enrollment or recent graduation from a degree program in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biology, Genetics, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of molecular biology and genetics concepts.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language commonly used in bioinformatics (e.g., Python, R).
  • Familiarity with command-line interface and Linux/Unix environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with statistical analysis software or libraries.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools.
  • Exposure to public biological databases (e.g., NCBI, UCSC Genome Browser).
  • Prior experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Coursework in machine learning or data mining.
