Job Description
Are you passionate about fashion and lifestyle trends? Do you dream of a career in retail buying? Farmers Trading Company is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Buyer Intern to join our Fashion & Lifestyle team in Palmerston North. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the exciting world of retail buying, working alongside experienced professionals. You will learn the end-to-end buying process, from trend analysis and product selection to vendor negotiations and inventory management. This internship is designed to provide comprehensive training and a foundational understanding of the retail industry, specifically within our dynamic fashion and lifestyle categories. No prior buying experience is required; we are looking for individuals with a keen interest, a willingness to learn, and a proactive attitude.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior buyers with market research, trend analysis, and competitor reviews to identify new product opportunities.
- Support the product selection process, including attending supplier meetings and reviewing product samples.
- Help prepare purchase orders and manage inventory levels to ensure optimal stock availability.
- Contribute to category planning and strategy development.
- Maintain accurate product data and vendor information.
- Collaborate with merchandising, marketing, and supply chain teams.
- Participate in store visits to understand product performance and customer feedback.
- Learn to analyze sales data and key performance indicators to inform buying decisions.
Required Skills
- Strong passion for fashion, retail, and lifestyle products.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Business, Marketing, Fashion Merchandising, Retail Management, or a related field.
- Previous retail experience (e.g., sales associate, stock associate) is a plus, but not required.
