Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Certified Accountant to join our Colchester team. This role is crucial for managing the financial health of our diverse client portfolio, ensuring compliance with UK accounting standards, and providing insightful financial analysis. The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of accounting duties, from preparing financial statements to advising clients on tax strategies and financial planning. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., FRS 102, IFRS).
- Manage client accounts, including bookkeeping, general ledger maintenance, and reconciliations.
- Prepare and submit corporate tax returns, VAT returns, and personal tax returns.
- Provide expert financial advice to clients on budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and business growth strategies.
- Conduct internal audits and assist with external audit preparations.
- Liaise with HMRC on behalf of clients regarding tax queries and compliance matters.
- Keep abreast of changes in accounting regulations, tax laws, and industry best practices.
- Support junior team members with training and guidance on accounting principles and software.
- Utilize accounting software efficiently for various financial tasks and reporting.
Required Skills
- ACCA or ACA qualification
- Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience in an accounting practice or similar environment
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)
- Strong understanding of UK GAAP and tax legislation
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple client accounts and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CCH Central or similar practice management software
- Specialization in a particular industry sector (e.g., technology, manufacturing, non-profit)
- Experience in financial modelling and forecasting
- Client-facing advisory experience
