Job Description
Join Mission Australia as a Community Housing Officer and make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and families. This hybrid role involves managing a portfolio of tenancies, ensuring compliance with housing policies, and providing support to residents to sustain their tenancies. You will work closely with government agencies and other not-for-profit partners to deliver integrated services and achieve positive outcomes for our community members. Your ability to build rapport, navigate complex situations, and uphold our values will be key to your success.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a diverse portfolio of social and affordable housing tenancies in the Gosford region.
- Conduct property inspections, manage maintenance requests, and ensure property standards are met.
- Provide tenancy advice, support, and advocacy to residents, including referrals to support services.
- Mediate tenancy disputes and implement strategies to prevent tenancy breaches and evictions.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with government housing departments and local NFP partners.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures related to housing management.
- Process applications, conduct interviews, and facilitate the allocation of housing properties.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date tenant records and documentation.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated experience in tenancy management or a similar client-facing role (minimum 2 years).
- Strong understanding of housing legislation and tenancy agreements (preferably NSW).
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse client groups, including vulnerable individuals.
- Proficiency in administrative tasks and record-keeping.
- Valid Australian Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Working With Children Check (WWCC) or ability to obtain one.
Preferred Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Community Services, or a related field.
- Experience working within a not-for-profit or government agency setting.
- Knowledge of local community resources and support services in the Gosford area.
