Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Corporate Lawyer / Legal Counsel to join our dynamic legal team in Portland, Oregon. This role is crucial for supporting Nike’s global operations, ensuring legal compliance, mitigating risks, and providing strategic legal advice across a variety of corporate matters. The successful candidate will play a key role in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial agreements, advising on corporate governance, M&A activities, intellectual property, and general business law. We are open to sponsoring suitable candidates for a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) to facilitate relocation to the United States. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced legal professional to contribute to a world-renowned brand.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including supplier agreements, licensing agreements, marketing agreements, and technology agreements.
- Provide expert legal advice on corporate governance, M&A transactions, joint ventures, and other strategic initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations in areas such as consumer protection, data privacy, and intellectual property.
- Manage and advise on legal risks associated with business operations, product development, and global expansion.
- Collaborate closely with internal business units, including product development, marketing, sales, and human resources, to provide practical and actionable legal guidance.
- Represent the company in discussions and negotiations with external parties, including law firms, government agencies, and business partners.
- Stay abreast of legal and regulatory developments impacting the retail and sportswear industries globally.
Required Skills
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school or equivalent international legal qualification.
- Admission to the bar in at least one U.S. state (or eligibility for admission through reciprocity/transfer) or relevant international bar equivalent.
- 5-8 years of experience as a corporate lawyer or legal counsel, preferably within a multinational corporation or top-tier law firm.
- Demonstrated expertise in commercial contract drafting and negotiation.
- Strong understanding of corporate law, M&A, and general business legal principles.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the retail, apparel, or consumer goods industry.
- Familiarity with intellectual property law, particularly trademarks and patents.
- Experience advising on international legal matters and cross-border transactions.
- Experience with immigration processes, particularly related to Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) applications (though this will be supported by Nike).
