Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Director of Special Education to lead our comprehensive special education programs. This pivotal role involves overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of special education services across our district, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. The Director will champion inclusive practices, advocate for students with diverse learning needs, and provide leadership to a team of dedicated special education professionals. Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all special education programs and services within the district.
- Ensure compliance with federal IDEA, state, and local regulations pertaining to special education.
- Develop and implement district-wide policies and procedures for special education services.
- Manage and allocate the special education budget effectively and transparently.
- Lead, mentor, and evaluate special education administrators, supervisors, and staff.
- Oversee the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students.
- Facilitate professional development opportunities for special education and general education staff.
- Collaborate with parents, guardians, and community stakeholders to support student success.
- Utilize data to assess program effectiveness and make data-driven decisions for continuous improvement.
- Represent the district on special education matters at various meetings and conferences.
Required Skills
- Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
- Pennsylvania Department of Education certification as a Supervisor of Special Education or equivalent administrative certification.
- Minimum of 5 years of successful experience in special education administration or leadership.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations (IDEA, Chapters 14 & 711).
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.
- Experience with diverse student populations and commitment to equitable practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate in Special Education or Educational Leadership.
- Experience as a Director of Special Education in a large urban school district.
- Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish, Mandarin).
