Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Electrical Engineer with a specialization in High Voltage systems to join our dynamic team in Duluth, Minnesota. This critical role involves the design, analysis, and maintenance of high voltage electrical infrastructure, ensuring the reliability and safety of our power delivery systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in power systems engineering, an understanding of regulatory compliance, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement high voltage electrical systems, equipment, and components for power generation, transmission, and distribution projects.
  • Perform advanced calculations and simulations for load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and protective device coordination studies.
  • Conduct site inspections, assessments, and commissioning of high voltage equipment, including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and protective relays.
  • Develop and review technical specifications, schematics, wiring diagrams, and other engineering documentation.
  • Collaborate with project managers, technicians, and other engineering disciplines to ensure project objectives are met on time and within budget.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex high voltage system issues, providing technical support during outages and emergencies.
  • Ensure all designs and installations comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., IEEE, ANSI, NESC) and safety regulations.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the professional development of the engineering team.
  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of new technologies and equipment to improve system performance and efficiency.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in high voltage power systems engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of power system analysis software (e.g., ETAP, PSCAD, CYME).
  • Proficiency in electrical codes, standards, and safety regulations (e.g., NESC, OSHA).
  • Experience with protective relaying, SCADA systems, and substation design.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics and blueprints.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Systems.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • Experience with renewable energy integration (wind, solar) into high voltage grids.
  • Familiarity with project management principles and software.
  • Experience in a utility environment.
