Job Description
Are you looking for a career where you can make a real difference every day? Orange County Emergency Services is seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team as an Emergency Services Telecommunicator through our comprehensive Trainee Program. No prior experience is required! We provide full, paid training to equip you with the essential skills to become a certified 911 dispatcher. In this critical role, you will be the calming voice and the steady hand guiding callers through emergencies, dispatching appropriate emergency units, and ensuring rapid response to incidents across Orange County. This position demands exceptional communication skills, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and a strong desire to serve the public.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and evaluate incoming emergency (911) and non-emergency calls, determining the nature and location of the incident.
- Prioritize calls and dispatch appropriate law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services units using computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Provide pre-arrival instructions to callers in medical emergencies or other critical situations.
- Monitor radio frequencies and maintain accurate logs of all communications and unit activities.
- Enter and retrieve data from various local, state, and national computer systems.
- Maintain composure and professionalism during high-stress situations.
- Work collaboratively with other telecommunicators and emergency personnel.
- Continuously train and stay updated on protocols, procedures, and technology.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to complete and pass all required state and agency certifications within the specified timeframe (training provided).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional active listening abilities.
- Ability to remain calm, think clearly, and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Strong multi-tasking capabilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn new software systems quickly.

- Successful completion of a comprehensive background check and psychological evaluation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a customer service role.
- Familiarity with Orange County geography.
- Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish).
