Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher to join our esteemed English Language Institute (ELI) team at the University of Pittsburgh. This full-time, on-site position offers an exciting opportunity to teach English to a diverse population of international students and professionals. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating engaging lesson plans, delivering effective instruction, and assessing student progress in various proficiency levels. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement engaging and effective lesson plans based on established curriculum guidelines.
- Deliver high-quality instruction in all areas of English language acquisition (listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, pronunciation).
- Assess student progress regularly through quizzes, tests, assignments, and active classroom participation.
- Provide constructive feedback to students to facilitate their language development.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress.
- Participate in curriculum development, teacher training workshops, and faculty meetings.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.
- Provide academic counseling and support to students as needed.
- Stay current with best practices and methodologies in ESL education.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, English, Education, or a related field.
- Recognized ESL teaching certification (e.g., CELTA, DELTA, TEFL with practical component).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and cross-cultural skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse classroom effectively.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in using educational technology and online learning platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
- Experience teaching ESL in a university or intensive English program setting.
- Proficiency in a second language.
- Experience with various ESL assessment tools and techniques.
