Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Federal Financial Aid Processor to join our Education Department in Chattanooga, TN. This role is crucial in assisting students with their financial aid applications, ensuring compliance with federal regulations, and accurately processing aid disbursements. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of federal financial aid programs, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to student support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process federal financial aid applications, including FAFSA verification, Pell Grant, and Direct Loan programs.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student financial aid records.
  • Counsel students and parents on financial aid options, eligibility requirements, and application procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations and policies.
  • Review and resolve discrepancies in student financial aid files.
  • Collaborate with other departments to facilitate timely and accurate disbursement of funds.
  • Stay updated on changes to federal financial aid laws and guidelines.
  • Assist with audits and reporting related to financial aid programs.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a financial aid or related administrative role.
  • Proficiency in student information systems (SIS) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Education, or a related field.
  • Direct experience with federal financial aid software (e.g., EDExpress, NSLDS).
  • Knowledge of Tennessee state financial aid programs.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) is a plus.
