Job Description

Join First Student as a School Bus Monitor / Aide and play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of students during their daily commute. This position is ideal for individuals seeking a flexible schedule with split shifts, making it an excellent opportunity for parents or those balancing other commitments. You will assist bus drivers in managing student behavior, ensuring a secure environment, and providing support for students with special needs. Full training will be provided, so no prior experience is necessary. We are looking for compassionate, reliable, and responsible individuals ready to make a difference in children’s lives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist students with safe boarding and exiting of the bus, including securing car seats, booster seats, and wheelchairs as needed.
  • Monitor student behavior on the bus, ensuring adherence to safety rules and fostering a positive environment.
  • Communicate effectively with the bus driver regarding student needs, concerns, or emergencies.
  • Provide direct support and assistance to students with special needs, following individualized plans if applicable.
  • Ensure all students remain seated and follow safety protocols during transit.
  • Complete required paperwork and reports accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Attend all mandatory training sessions and meetings.

Required Skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and school staff.
  • Demonstrated reliability and punctuality.
  • Ability to remain calm and authoritative in a dynamic environment.
  • Physical ability to assist students, including lifting and securing equipment if necessary (training provided).
  • Must pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Commitment to student safety and well-being.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children or in a school setting.
  • Familiarity with local school district policies and procedures.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (training can be provided).
