Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced First Officer to join our dynamic team operating from Brighton. As a First Officer, you will play a critical role in the safe and efficient navigation of our vessels, ensuring compliance with international regulations and company policies. You will be responsible for bridge watchkeeping, managing vessel operations, and contributing to the overall success of our maritime services. Key Responsibilities
- Serve as Officer of the Watch, maintaining a safe navigational watch and ensuring compliance with the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs).
- Assist the Master in all aspects of vessel operations, including passage planning, cargo operations, and personnel management.
- Oversee the maintenance and readiness of all safety and firefighting equipment.
- Conduct regular inspections and drills to ensure the vessel's crew is prepared for emergencies.
- Manage and supervise junior officers and ratings, fostering a culture of safety and professional development.
- Ensure all departmental documentation, reports, and records are accurately maintained.
- Adhere to company safety management system (SMS) procedures and environmental protection policies.
- Participate in routine vessel maintenance and upkeep as directed by the Chief Officer.
Required Skills
- Unlimited Chief Mate CoC (Certificate of Competency) or equivalent STCW certification.
- Minimum of 3 years (36 months) sea time experience as a deck officer on relevant vessel types.
- Proficiency in Bridge Resource Management (BRM) and navigation systems.
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent understanding of maritime safety regulations, including SOLAS and MARPOL.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and under pressure.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience on Ro-Ro Passenger/Freight vessels.
- Advanced training in medical first aid and fire fighting.
- GMDSS General Operator's Certificate (GOC).
- Familiarity with DFDS operational procedures and routes.
