Job Description
Are you passionate about working outdoors and eager to start a rewarding career in grounds maintenance? Mitie is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as a Grounds Maintenance Worker / Trainee Gardener in Hoyland, Barnsley. This is a fantastic entry-level opportunity for someone with little to no prior experience, as full training will be provided. You will learn all aspects of grounds care, contributing to the upkeep and enhancement of various sites. If you are reliable, hardworking, and love being active outside, we want to hear from you!
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in all aspects of grounds maintenance, including mowing, strimming, weeding, pruning, and planting
- Operate light machinery and equipment under supervision, adhering to all safety guidelines
- Maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of communal outdoor areas
- Support senior grounds staff with various gardening and landscaping tasks
- Adhere strictly to health and safety procedures at all times
- Learn and apply best practices in horticulture and grounds care
- Report any equipment faults or health and safety concerns to supervisors
Required Skills
- A genuine enthusiasm for working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills in horticulture
- Good physical fitness and ability to perform manual tasks
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong work ethic
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Valid UK driving license (preferred but not essential for trainees, however, willingness to obtain is a plus)
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic understanding or interest in plants and gardening
- Previous experience in any outdoor work, even voluntary
- Awareness of basic health and safety principles
