Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate International Student Advisor to join our Student Support Services team. This vital role involves providing comprehensive guidance and support to international students on a wide range of matters, from immigration and visa regulations to cultural adaptation and academic integration. You will be instrumental in ensuring a smooth and successful transition for students arriving from diverse backgrounds, helping them navigate life in Scotland and thrive academically and personally. Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice on UK immigration regulations, visa applications, and compliance for international students.
  • Deliver pre-arrival information, orientation sessions, and ongoing support for new and continuing international students.
  • Assist students with cultural adjustment, housing, healthcare, and general welfare inquiries.
  • Advise on academic policies and procedures, ensuring students understand their responsibilities and available resources.
  • Liaise with internal university departments (e.g., Admissions, Registry, Accommodation) and external agencies.
  • Maintain accurate student records and contribute to reporting requirements.
  • Develop and update informational materials, workshops, and online resources for international students.
  • Participate in outreach activities and represent the university at relevant events.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience providing advice and support in an educational or similar setting.
  • Excellent understanding of UK immigration laws and visa processes, particularly Tier 4 (Student) visas.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to empathize and build rapport with diverse individuals.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in a relevant field (e.g., International Relations, Education, Social Sciences).
  • Experience living or working internationally.
  • Knowledge of another language.
  • Experience with student record management systems.
