Job Description
Are you passionate about the art and science of bringing virtual worlds to life through stunning visuals? Ubisoft Ottawa is offering an exciting internship opportunity for an aspiring Lighting & Rendering VFX Artist. This entry-level position is designed for individuals eager to learn and contribute to the visual fidelity of our games. You will work alongside experienced professionals, gaining hands-on experience with industry-standard tools and pipelines, and contribute to creating breathtaking lighting and visual effects that enhance gameplay and immersion. Full training and mentorship will be provided, making this an ideal role for someone with foundational knowledge and a strong desire to specialize in VFX.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior artists in setting up lighting scenarios for various game environments and assets.
- Support the team in optimizing rendering pipelines for performance and visual quality.
- Learn and apply techniques for creating and integrating visual effects (e.g., particles, shaders) into game scenes.
- Collaborate with other art disciplines (environment art, character art) to ensure visual consistency.
- Participate in daily stand-ups and team meetings, contributing ideas and feedback.
- Troubleshoot basic lighting and rendering issues under supervision.
- Maintain organized project files and adhere to established naming conventions and pipelines.
- Continuously learn new software, techniques, and best practices in VFX and lighting.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of 3D art principles and digital content creation (DCC) tools.
- Familiarity with at least one 3D software (e.g., Maya, 3ds Max, Blender) or game engine (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity).
- Eagerness to learn and a strong interest in lighting, rendering, and visual effects.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- A portfolio demonstrating artistic potential or personal projects related to 3D art is a plus, but not strictly required for this entry-level role.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree/diploma program in Game Art, Animation, Computer Graphics, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of physically based rendering (PBR) workflows.
- Exposure to scripting languages (e.g., Python, MEL) is beneficial.
- Understanding of color theory and composition.
