Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Local Council Minibus Driver to join our Community Transport team in York. This vital role involves providing safe, reliable, and friendly transportation for residents, including elderly individuals, those with disabilities, and children, to various appointments, community activities, and school routes. You will be an essential link in helping members of our community maintain their independence and access important services. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to passenger safety, excellent customer service skills, and a patient, understanding approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate council minibuses safely and efficiently on designated routes and ad-hoc journeys.
- Assist passengers, including those with mobility challenges, with boarding and alighting the vehicle, ensuring all safety measures are followed.
- Conduct daily vehicle checks, maintain cleanliness, and report any faults or maintenance requirements promptly.
- Adhere to scheduled timetables while remaining flexible to accommodate unexpected changes or delays.
- Maintain accurate records of journeys, passenger numbers, and mileage.
- Provide a friendly, supportive, and professional service to all passengers.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant road safety regulations, council policies, and safeguarding procedures.
Required Skills
- Valid UK Driving License (Category B minimum, D1 desirable but training can be provided)
- Minimum of 12 months professional driving experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrable commitment to passenger safety and welfare
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Patience, empathy, and a friendly demeanor
- Good geographical knowledge of York and surrounding areas
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid D1 (Minibus) driving license with no 101 restriction
- Previous experience in community transport or passenger assistance roles
- First Aid certification
- MIDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) certificate
