Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Marine Surveyor / Inspector to join our dynamic team in North Vancouver, BC. This critical role involves conducting detailed inspections and surveys of vessels and marine equipment to ensure compliance with national and international regulations, industry standards, and client specifications. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in marine engineering, naval architecture, or a related field, coupled with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to safety and quality. Relocation assistance will be provided for qualified candidates looking to make North Vancouver their new home.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive inspections and surveys on a variety of marine vessels, including new builds, repairs, and in-service vessels.
- Verify compliance with classification society rules, flag state requirements, port state control regulations, and other applicable maritime conventions (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL).
- Prepare accurate and detailed survey reports, documentation, and certifications.
- Identify defects, non-conformities, and potential hazards, providing expert advice on corrective actions.
- Liaise with shipowners, operators, shipyard personnel, regulatory bodies, and classification societies.
- Conduct incident investigations and casualty surveys as required.
- Stay updated with changes in marine regulations, technology, and industry best practices.
- Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Marine Surveyor, Marine Engineer, Naval Architect, or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of marine vessel systems, structures, and equipment.
- Familiarity with international maritime regulations and classification society rules.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Proficient in technical report writing and documentation.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency with standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., Class Society Surveyor, Chartered Engineer).
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.
- Experience with different vessel types (e.g., commercial, naval, offshore).
- Fluency in additional languages relevant to the maritime industry.
- Prior experience working in a shipyard environment.
