Job Description
We are actively seeking skilled and dedicated Medical Technologists to join our dynamic laboratory teams across various specialties at Houston Methodist Hospital. Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex medical laboratory tests accurately and efficiently in areas such as hematology, chemistry, microbiology, blood bank, and immunology.
- Analyze test results for accuracy, precision, and clinical significance, correlating findings with patient conditions.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to established protocols.
- Adhere to all quality control and quality assurance protocols, participating in proficiency testing programs to maintain high standards.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and resolve problems related to laboratory testing and equipment in a timely manner.
- Document all test results, quality control data, and instrument maintenance logs in compliance with regulatory standards and hospital policies.
- Communicate critical results to physicians and other healthcare providers promptly and effectively, ensuring patient safety.
- Assist in the training and mentorship of new staff and students as required, fostering a learning environment.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment, following all safety guidelines and infection control procedures.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related science field.
- Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by ASCP or equivalent.
- Proven ability to perform and interpret a wide range of clinical laboratory tests.
- Strong understanding of laboratory quality control and quality assurance principles.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining laboratory instruments.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Specialized experience or certification in one or more laboratory areas (e.g., Blood Bank, Microbiology).
- Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
- Previous experience in an academic medical center or large hospital setting.
