Job Description
Join the Young V&A team as a Museum Exhibit Installation Assistant, a fantastic entry-level opportunity for individuals passionate about museums, art, and hands-on work. This role is crucial to bringing our inspiring exhibitions to life, involving the careful preparation, handling, and installation of diverse collection items and display structures. We are looking for someone with a meticulous eye, a responsible approach, and a strong willingness to learn the specialized techniques required for museum-quality installations. Full training will be provided on best practices for art handling, exhibit assembly, and safety procedures. Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior technicians and conservators with the safe unpacking, handling, and movement of museum objects and exhibit components.
- Participate in the assembly and installation of display cases, plinths, graphics, and interactive elements according to exhibition plans.
- Learn and apply appropriate packing, crating, and storage techniques for various types of museum artifacts.
- Help with the preparation of exhibition spaces, including cleaning, minor repairs, and wall preparation.
- Support the dismantling of exhibitions, ensuring all objects and materials are carefully de-installed and prepared for storage or transit.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to all health and safety guidelines.
- Report any damage or concerns regarding objects or equipment immediately to senior staff.
- Collaborate effectively with team members across different museum departments.
