Job Description
Are you passionate about music and eager to learn a unique, hands-on skill? Long & McQuade in Stratford, Ontario is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Guitar Stringer (Trainee). This is a fantastic entry-level opportunity for someone with no prior experience in guitar stringing. We are committed to providing comprehensive, on-the-job training to help you master the art of guitar stringing and basic instrument maintenance. You’ll work closely with our experienced team, ensuring our guitars are perfectly set up and ready for our customers, contributing to their musical journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Undergo comprehensive training to learn professional guitar stringing techniques for various guitar types (electric, acoustic, bass).
- Assist with basic instrument cleaning and minor maintenance tasks under supervision.
- Organize and maintain inventory of guitar strings, picks, and other small accessories.
- Provide friendly and helpful customer service, answering basic questions about strings and instrument care.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation and retail environment.
- Learn about different string gauges, materials, and their impact on tone and playability.
- Support the wider retail team as needed, ensuring a smooth customer experience.
Required Skills
- A strong passion for music, especially guitars and other stringed instruments.
- Excellent manual dexterity and meticulous attention to detail.
- Eagerness to learn new technical skills and absorb information quickly.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with customers and colleagues.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Reliability and a strong work ethic.
- No prior experience in guitar stringing or instrument repair is required – full training will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic familiarity with different types of guitars (e.g., acoustic, electric, bass).
- Personal experience playing a musical instrument, particularly guitar.
- Previous experience in a retail or customer service role (any industry).
