Job Description
Are you passionate about the outdoors and dedicated to public safety? The Florida Park Service is seeking a motivated National Park Law Enforcement Assistant to join our team in Pompano Beach. This outdoor-focused role is crucial for supporting our park rangers and law enforcement personnel in maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for all visitors. You will primarily work in various outdoor settings, assisting with monitoring park areas, responding to minor incidents, providing visitor information, and performing essential support duties for law enforcement operations within Florida State Parks. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain experience in conservation law enforcement and outdoor public service.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist park rangers and law enforcement officers with routine patrols and surveillance of park areas.
- Monitor park facilities, trails, and natural resources for compliance with park regulations.
- Provide information and assistance to park visitors, ensuring a positive and safe experience.
- Respond to and report minor incidents, disturbances, or potential hazards.
- Support law enforcement personnel with administrative tasks, equipment checks, and logistical needs.
- Participate in search and rescue efforts, first aid responses, and emergency preparedness activities.
- Conduct inspections of park areas to identify and report maintenance or safety issues.
- Assist with educational programs and outreach events related to park safety and regulations.
- Operate and maintain park vehicles and equipment as required.
Required Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in various outdoor weather conditions.
- Basic knowledge of first aid and CPR (certification preferred but training provided).
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Physical stamina and ability to walk, stand, and lift moderate weights.
- Valid state driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- 6 months of experience in an outdoor-related field, customer service, or public safety.
- Familiarity with Florida State Park rules and regulations.
- Experience with basic hand tools and outdoor equipment.
- Certification in Wilderness First Aid or similar.
