Job Description

Are you passionate about protecting natural landscapes and connecting people with nature? We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated National Parks Ranger to join our team in the Brighton area. This role is crucial for maintaining the natural beauty, ecological health, and visitor experience of our protected sites. You will be responsible for a diverse range of tasks, from practical conservation work and wildlife monitoring to visitor engagement and site management. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular patrols and inspections of assigned national park areas to monitor conditions, identify maintenance needs, and enforce regulations.
  • Implement practical conservation tasks, including habitat management, path maintenance, invasive species control, and litter collection.
  • Monitor local wildlife populations, flora, and ecological health, contributing to ongoing conservation surveys and reports.
  • Engage with visitors, providing information, guidance, and educational experiences about the park's natural and cultural significance.
  • Respond to visitor inquiries, manage incidents, and provide first aid when necessary, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
  • Assist with the organization and delivery of guided walks, educational programs, and community engagement events.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in a safe and operational condition.
  • Collaborate with volunteers, local communities, and external partners on conservation projects and initiatives.
  • Complete administrative tasks, including incident reports, maintenance logs, and visitor statistics.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in countryside management, conservation, or a related field.
  • Strong practical skills for outdoor maintenance, including use of hand tools and basic machinery.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • A genuine passion for wildlife, conservation, and the outdoors.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various weather conditions.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to personal transport for travel to remote sites.
  • Basic IT proficiency for reporting and record-keeping.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification in countryside management, environmental science, ecology, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in wildlife monitoring techniques and identification.
  • First Aid certificate.
  • Experience working with volunteers and community groups.
  • Knowledge of local flora, fauna, and environmental issues relevant to the South Downs National Park.
