Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Network Cabling Specialist with a strong focus on fiber optic and data cabling to join our team in Goulburn. This role is crucial for the installation, maintenance, and repair of our extensive telecommunications network infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring high-quality, reliable connectivity for our customers, working on diverse projects ranging from new installations to system upgrades and fault finding. You will be an integral part of a field-based team, demonstrating expertise in various cabling techniques and adherence to industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, test, label, and troubleshoot fiber optic and copper data cabling systems (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A).
- Perform fusion splicing and mechanical terminations for various fiber optic cable types.
- Conduct comprehensive testing of installed cables using OTDR, power meters, and Fluke testers.
- Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams to plan cable routes and installations.
- Diagnide and resolve complex cabling issues, including open circuits, shorts, and performance degradation.
- Ensure all installations comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and company specifications.
- Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and test results.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other technicians to ensure project completion within deadlines.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior team members when required.
- Operate and maintain a variety of tools and equipment safely and effectively.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated experience in network cabling, with a strong emphasis on fiber optics and data cabling.
- Proficiency in fiber optic fusion splicing and termination techniques.
- Familiarity with various cable types, connectors, and network topologies.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Strong understanding of TIA/EIA, AS/NZS, and other relevant cabling standards.
- Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a field environment.
- Valid Australian Driver's License.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Cert III in Telecommunications, BICSI RCDD/TECH).
- Experience with specific test equipment such as OTDRs and advanced network certifiers.
- Working at Heights and Confined Spaces certifications.
- Prior experience working on large-scale telecommunications infrastructure projects.
