Job Description
Are you an aspiring petroleum engineer eager to gain hands-on experience in the dynamic upstream oil and gas sector? Fluor Corporation is offering an exciting internship opportunity for a motivated student to join our Upstream Operations team in Eugene, Oregon. This internship is designed to provide practical exposure to various facets of petroleum engineering, working alongside seasoned professionals on active projects. You will contribute to critical tasks, learn industry best practices, and develop a comprehensive understanding of upstream operations, from reservoir characterization to production optimization. This is an entry-level internship where full training and mentorship will be provided. We are looking for bright minds ready to learn and apply academic knowledge in a professional environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist petroleum engineers in data collection, analysis, and interpretation related to reservoir performance, wellbore integrity, and production rates.
- Support the preparation of technical reports, presentations, and documentation for ongoing upstream projects.
- Learn to utilize industry-standard software tools for reservoir simulation, production forecasting, and economic analysis.
- Participate in team meetings, contributing ideas and learning from project discussions.
- Conduct research on emerging technologies and best practices in petroleum engineering and sustainable energy solutions.
- Aid in ensuring compliance with safety protocols and environmental regulations during project activities.
- Assist with field data acquisition and analysis, potentially including site visits if applicable and safe to do so.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an eagerness to learn new concepts and technologies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical information clearly.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- A foundational understanding of basic engineering principles and mathematical concepts.
- No prior professional experience in petroleum engineering is required; this is an entry-level learning opportunity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Completed coursework in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, geology, or reservoir engineering.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or VBA is a plus.
- Previous participation in engineering clubs, projects, or academic competitions.
