Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Private Certification Lead to join our dynamic team in Fortitude Valley. This pivotal role involves overseeing all aspects of building certification and compliance for a diverse portfolio of construction projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all projects adhere to relevant building codes, regulations, and standards, while leading and mentoring a team of certification professionals. You will act as a key liaison between project teams, regulatory bodies, and clients, providing expert advice and strategic guidance throughout the project lifecycle. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the private certification function across multiple construction projects.
  • Ensure compliance with the Building Act 1975, Building Code of Australia (BCA), and relevant Australian Standards.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of building applications, permits, and occupation certificates.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure construction activities meet certification requirements.
  • Provide expert technical advice and guidance to project managers, site teams, and stakeholders on building codes and regulations.
  • Manage relationships with regulatory authorities, local councils, and industry bodies.
  • Develop and implement robust certification processes and quality assurance procedures.
  • Mentor and develop junior certification staff, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks related to building compliance and certification.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in building certification within the Australian construction industry.
  • Accreditation as a Building Surveyor or Private Certifier in Queensland.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Building Act 1975, Building Code of Australia (BCA), and associated regulations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Proficiency in relevant certification software and project management tools.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex certification processes for large-scale projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Building Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Membership with a relevant industry body (e.g., AIBS, RICS).
  • Experience with a diverse range of project types (commercial, residential, mixed-use).
  • Postgraduate qualification in a related discipline.
