Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and energetic Government Surplus Auction Assistant for an active, hands-on role based in Calgary, Alberta. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy a fast-paced environment, possess strong organizational skills, and are comfortable with physical tasks. You will be instrumental in the preparation, organization, and execution of our government surplus auctions, ensuring a smooth process from inventory intake to auction day. This role involves meticulous attention to detail, proactive problem-solving, and direct involvement with a variety of assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the intake, cataloging, and inventory management of government surplus items.
- Photograph and document auction items, ensuring accurate descriptions and visual representation.
- Prepare items for auction, which may include cleaning, minor repairs, and staging.
- Organize and maintain the auction yard/warehouse, ensuring items are safely and logically stored.
- Assist potential buyers during viewing days, answering questions and directing them to specific items.
- Support auction operations on sale days, including crowd management, item presentation, and post-auction logistics.
- Operate various equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks) safely after receiving appropriate training and certification.
- Ensure compliance with all company safety policies and procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and other departments to achieve auction goals.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer proficiency for inventory and documentation.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
- A proactive and positive attitude with a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a warehouse, logistics, or auction environment.
- Familiarity with various types of industrial equipment or vehicles.
- Experience operating forklifts or other heavy machinery (certification preferred but training available).
- Customer service experience in a retail or industrial setting.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
