Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and organized Public Housing Coordinator to join our team at Fishers Municipal Housing Services. This vital role involves overseeing the daily operations of our public housing programs, ensuring compliance with HUD regulations, and providing essential support to our residents. The Public Housing Coordinator will manage tenant applications, lease agreements, rent collection, and maintenance requests, playing a key role in maintaining a high standard of living for our community members. This position requires a compassionate individual with strong administrative skills and a commitment to public service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and process applications for public housing, including eligibility determinations and waitlist management.
  • Prepare, execute, and enforce tenant lease agreements, ensuring compliance with all policies and regulations.
  • Collect and post rent payments, diligently following up on delinquencies and coordinating with appropriate departments for resolution.
  • Coordinate and track maintenance requests, scheduling repairs and ensuring timely completion to uphold housing standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections of housing units to ensure compliance with health, safety, and housing quality standards.
  • Provide guidance and support to residents regarding their rights and responsibilities, available resources, and community programs.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential tenant files and program records, both electronic and physical.
  • Prepare reports on program performance, occupancy rates, and financial activities for local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of housing policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with community partners and social service agencies to enhance resident support services.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in property management, housing administration, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of federal housing programs (e.g., HUD, Section 8) and local housing regulations.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and property management software.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload effectively.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Social Work, Business Management, or a related field.
  • Experience working with low-income communities or vulnerable populations.
  • Knowledge of Yardi or similar housing management software.
  • Certification in Public Housing Management (e.g., PHM, COS).
