Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and dedicated Rig Manager (Assistant) to join our growing drilling sector team. Based out of our Gold Coast operational hub, you will play a crucial supporting role in the effective management of drilling operations across various projects. This position is ideal for an individual with foundational experience in drilling or heavy machinery who is looking to advance into a leadership role. You will assist the Rig Manager in overseeing daily operations, ensuring compliance with safety standards, optimizing drilling performance, and managing site personnel and equipment. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Rig Manager in planning, organizing, and supervising daily drilling operations.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all company and regulatory safety procedures and environmental policies.
  • Monitor drilling progress, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions under supervision.
  • Conduct regular inspections of drilling rigs and associated equipment to ensure operational readiness and safety.
  • Coordinate logistics for equipment, materials, and personnel to and from site.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior crew members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Maintain accurate operational records, daily reports, and safety documentation.
  • Participate in incident investigations and implement preventative measures.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders as directed by the Rig Manager.
  • Support the Rig Manager in performance management and team scheduling.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in drilling operations, heavy equipment operation, or a related field within the mining or construction sector.
  • Proven understanding of drilling processes and equipment.
  • Strong commitment to safety and hazard identification.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Problem-solving capabilities and a proactive approach.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting equipment issues.
  • Current driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant Vocational Qualification or Trade Certificate (e.g., Cert III in Drilling Operations).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
  • Knowledge of Australian mining regulations and standards.
  • Familiarity with specific drilling software or data management systems.
