Job Description

Republic Services in Spartanburg, SC is excited to offer an incredible opportunity for a Sanitation Truck Driver Trainee! This entry-level position is perfect for motivated individuals with a clean driving record who are ready to earn their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) license. We provide comprehensive, fully paid training to help you obtain your CDL/HGV, preparing you for a rewarding career as a professional Sanitation Truck Driver. No prior experience with heavy vehicles is required – just a commitment to safety, service, and learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in all required CDL/HGV training programs and coursework.
- Learn and practice safe operation of heavy sanitation vehicles under direct supervision.
- Familiarize yourself with designated collection routes, schedules, and service areas.
- Assist experienced drivers and crew members with waste collection tasks.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, as well as DOT regulations.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and report any issues.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment within the vehicle.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and customers.
- Exhibit a strong work ethic and a positive, collaborative attitude.
Required Skills
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Possess a valid state Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check, and DOT physical.
- Willingness to commit to and successfully complete an intensive CDL/HGV training program.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to all regulations.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and reaching.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- No prior commercial driving experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous experience in general labor, warehouse, or a physically demanding role.
- Mechanical aptitude or familiarity with vehicle maintenance.
