Job Description
We are seeking a proactive and dedicated School Crossing Guard Supervisor to oversee the operations of our School Crossing Patrol service. This vital role involves managing a team of crossing guards, ensuring the safety of children traveling to and from school, and maintaining high standards of service delivery across various locations within the Winchester area. You will be responsible for recruitment, training, scheduling, and performance management, contributing directly to the well-being of our community’s youngest members.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruit, train, and supervise a team of School Crossing Guards, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and council policies.
- Develop and manage work schedules for crossing guards, optimizing coverage at designated school crossing points.
- Conduct regular site visits to evaluate crossing guard performance and identify areas for improvement or additional training.
- Liaise with schools, parents, and community groups regarding crossing patrol services and address any concerns or feedback.
- Manage and maintain equipment for crossing guards, including uniforms and stop signs.
- Investigate incidents or accidents involving crossing patrols and prepare detailed reports.
- Ensure all health and safety regulations are strictly followed by the crossing guard team.
- Assist in the development and implementation of road safety initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, incidents, and training.
- Provide cover for crossing points during staff shortages if necessary.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a supervisory or team leadership role.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with children, parents, and the public.
- Strong organizational and administrative abilities.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure.
- A full UK driving license and access to a vehicle for travel across the district.
- Understanding of basic health and safety principles.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., email, word processing).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a school environment or with children.
- Knowledge of local road safety guidelines and regulations.
- Experience in training and development of staff.
