Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced School Crossing Guard Supervisor to oversee and manage our team of School Crossing Patrol Officers across the borough of Havering. This vital role ensures the safety of children and pedestrians at designated school crossing points, particularly during peak school travel times. You will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision, training, and support of the crossing patrol team, upholding high standards of service and adherence to safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise a team of School Crossing Patrol Officers, ensuring adequate staffing and coverage for all designated sites.
- Conduct regular site visits to school crossing points to monitor performance, ensure safety compliance, and provide support to officers.
- Organise and deliver initial training and ongoing refresher training for all School Crossing Patrol Officers.
- Develop and manage patrol rotas and schedules, addressing any absences or urgent staffing needs.
- Investigate and respond to public enquiries, concerns, and complaints related to school crossing patrols.
- Maintain accurate records of patrol activities, incidents, training, and equipment.
- Collaborate with schools, parents, and community groups to promote road safety awareness.
- Ensure all equipment used by School Crossing Patrol Officers is in good working order and arrange for replacements or repairs as needed.
- Act as a point of contact for emergency services and local residents regarding crossing issues.
- Prepare reports on service delivery, performance, and any incidents for senior management.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a supervisory or team leader role.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with staff, public, and stakeholders.
- Strong organisational and time management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for travel across the borough.
- Proficiency in basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Understanding of road safety principles and relevant legislation.
- Ability to handle difficult situations calmly and professionally.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a local authority or public service environment.
- Experience directly supervising or managing school crossing patrols or similar roles.
- Formal training in health and safety or supervisory management.
- Knowledge of the Havering geographical area and school network.
