Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Signaling Engineer to join our dynamic team in Birkenhead. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the design, development, and implementation of cutting-edge railway signaling systems. This role involves working on critical infrastructure projects that enhance the safety, efficiency, and reliability of the UK’s rail network. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of signaling projects, from initial concept and detailed design through to testing and commissioning, ensuring adherence to industry standards and client specifications. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed signaling designs and schemes in compliance with Network Rail standards and project specifications.
  • Conduct site surveys and investigations to gather necessary data for design proposals.
  • Prepare technical specifications, reports, and documentation for signaling projects.
  • Perform calculations and simulations to validate design integrity and performance.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including civil, power, and telecommunications engineers.
  • Participate in design reviews, hazard analyses, and risk assessments.
  • Support the installation, testing, and commissioning phases of signaling systems.
  • Provide technical expertise and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Ensure all work adheres to safety regulations and quality assurance procedures.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of railway signaling principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in signaling design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD).
  • Experience with Network Rail standards (NR/L2/SIG/30014, NR/L2/SIG/30015, etc.).
  • Familiarity with CENELEC standards (EN50126, EN50128, EN50129).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
  • Experience with ERTMS/ETCS systems.
  • Project management experience in a railway context.
  • Knowledge of various signaling technologies (e.g., interlocking systems, train detection, level crossings).
  • Relevant IRSE licenses (e.g., Engineering Manager, Design, Principles Designer).
