Job Description
We are offering an invaluable student placement opportunity for an enthusiastic and dedicated Social Work student to gain practical experience within our diverse community services programs in Whyalla. This placement is designed to provide hands-on learning, professional development, and mentorship within a supportive team environment. Key Responsibilities
- Assist qualified social workers with client intake, assessment, and case management tasks.
- Participate in individual and group supervision, case conferences, and team meetings.
- Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of community-based programs and events.
- Conduct research on local community resources, support services, and funding opportunities.
- Engage respectfully with clients, service users, and community stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
- Contribute to the development of client support plans and intervention strategies.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records in compliance with organisational policies.
- Shadow experienced professionals to observe best practices in social work.
- Develop and implement small projects or initiatives under direct supervision.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor or Master of Social Work degree program.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental approach.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Basic computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer experience in community, welfare, or health settings.
- Understanding of regional community dynamics and local needs in Whyalla.
- Current National Police Check and Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain upon offer).
- Possession of a current Australian Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
