Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and physically fit Street Maintenance Hand to join our dynamic team in Crawley. This role involves performing essential maintenance and repair work on roads, pavements, and public spaces as part of various civil projects. You will be a crucial part of ensuring the safety and functionality of our local infrastructure. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on roads, footpaths, and other public surfaces, including pothole filling, patching, and kerb laying.
- Assist in larger civil engineering projects such as road reconstruction, drainage system improvements, and street furniture installation.
- Safely operate a variety of hand tools, small plant, and equipment, including compaction plates, breakers, and cutting tools.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, site-specific risk assessments, and company policies.
- Conduct pre-start checks on equipment and report any defects or hazards promptly to the supervisor.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly cared for and stored.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure projects are completed efficiently and to high standards.
- Participate in training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Handle and dispose of materials responsibly.
Required Skills
- Previous experience in an outdoor manual labour role, ideally within construction, civil engineering, or grounds maintenance.
- Basic understanding of road construction and maintenance techniques.
- Ability to work effectively and safely as part of a team.
- Demonstrated commitment to health and safety procedures.
- Physical fitness and stamina to perform demanding tasks and lift heavy objects.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work with minimal supervision when required.
- Full, clean UK driving license.
Preferred Qualifications
- CSCS Card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
- NVQ Level 2 in Civil Engineering, Highway Maintenance, or a related field.
- Experience operating specific plant equipment (e.g., 360 excavator under 10T, roller).
- Basic First Aid certification.
