Job Description
We are seeking a meticulous and dedicated Surgical Instrument Sterilization Tech to join our back-office team in Tucson, AZ. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for the cleaning, sterilization, and preparation of surgical instruments and equipment, ensuring the highest standards of infection control and patient safety. This position requires a keen eye for detail, adherence to strict protocols, and a commitment to maintaining a sterile environment for all medical procedures. Your work directly impacts the quality of care our patients receive and contributes to a safe environment for our patients and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, decontaminate, clean, and sort surgical instruments and equipment according to established protocols.
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and proper assembly before sterilization.
- Package and sterilize instruments using various methods, including steam autoclaves and hydrogen peroxide plasma sterilizers.
- Operate and monitor sterilization equipment, ensuring proper function and cycle completion.
- Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, inventory, and equipment maintenance logs.
- Distribute sterile supplies and instruments to surgical suites and other hospital departments as needed.
- Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, AAMI, AORN, and other regulatory standards for sterile processing.
- Participate in quality assurance activities and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance department efficiency and safety.
- Identify and report malfunctioning equipment or damaged instruments promptly.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the sterile processing department.

Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CBSPD).
- 6 months of experience in a sterile processing department, operating room, or similar healthcare setting.
- Basic knowledge of surgical instrumentation and medical terminology.
