Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Telecommunications Splicer/Lineman to join our team in Worcester, MA. This critical role involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic and copper cable networks, ensuring high-quality and reliable service for our customers. You will be responsible for splicing and testing fiber optic cables, performing aerial and underground cable installation, and diagnosing and repairing service issues. Key Responsibilities
- Perform fusion and mechanical splicing of fiber optic cables and copper cables according to industry standards.
- Install, repair, and maintain aerial and underground telecommunications lines and equipment.
- Conduct testing and troubleshooting of fiber optic and copper networks using specialized equipment (e.g., OTDR, power meters).
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and service orders to determine work assignments.
- Operate various hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment (e.g., bucket trucks, trenchers) safely and efficiently.
- Adhere to all safety regulations, company policies, and quality standards.
- Respond to service calls and emergency outages, often outside of normal business hours.
- Document work performed, materials used, and network configurations accurately.
- Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure timely project completion and customer satisfaction.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in fiber optic splicing and copper cable termination.
- Strong understanding of telecommunications infrastructure and network components.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Proficiency in using testing equipment such as OTDRs, power meters, and light sources.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., FOA CFOT, BICSI).
- Experience operating bucket trucks, digger derricks, or other heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of local telecommunications codes and regulations.
- Previous experience with Verizon or other major telecommunications providers.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
