Job Description

Join Great Western Railway as a Ticket Inspector in Falmouth! We are looking for a dedicated and customer-focused individual to ensure the integrity of ticket sales and revenue on our services. As a Ticket Inspector, you will be responsible for checking tickets, assisting passengers, and maintaining a safe and pleasant environment on our trains and at stations. This role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle various situations with professionalism. Full training on GWR policies and ticketing systems will be provided to ensure your success in this crucial role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verify tickets and passes from passengers to ensure valid travel.
  • Issue penalty fares or report instances of fare evasion in accordance with company policy and legal guidelines.
  • Provide excellent customer service, assisting passengers with journey information, connections, and general enquiries.
  • Handle passenger complaints and conflicts professionally, escalating issues when necessary to the appropriate channels.
  • Ensure passenger safety and security, reporting any suspicious activities or incidents immediately.
  • Conduct routine checks for cleanliness and orderliness on trains and platforms, escalating issues to relevant departments.
  • Liaise with train operating staff, station teams, and British Transport Police as required to ensure smooth operations.

Required Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-first approach.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and observational skills to identify discrepancies.
  • Capability to remain calm and professional in challenging or high-pressure situations.
  • Basic numeracy for fare calculations and record keeping.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
  • A valid UK driving licence (desirable).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a customer service, security, or public-facing role.
  • Knowledge of railway operations or ticketing systems.
  • Proficiency in additional languages.
  • First Aid certification.
