Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tooling Engineer to join our manufacturing team in Lichfield. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, development, maintenance, and improvement of tooling used in our production processes. This role requires a strong understanding of manufacturing techniques, material science, and precision engineering to ensure optimal tool performance, quality, and efficiency. You will collaborate closely with production, design, and quality teams to implement best practices and resolve tooling-related challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize new and existing tooling, jigs, and fixtures for various manufacturing processes.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for tooling failures and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Manage tooling inventory, maintenance schedules, and procurement of new tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (production, R&D, quality) to ensure tooling meets production requirements and quality standards.
  • Evaluate and recommend new tooling technologies and materials to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Provide technical support and training to production staff on tooling usage and maintenance.
  • Ensure all tooling activities comply with safety regulations and company standards.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Tooling Engineer or similar role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA).
  • In-depth knowledge of various machining processes (milling, turning, grinding, EDM) and materials.
  • Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with plastic injection molding or metal stamping tooling.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with CNC programming.
